The International Symposium "State and Private Life in Communist Regimes",
3rd Edition, Făgăraş-Sâmbăta de Sus, 3 - 5 July 2008
In the interval 3-5 July 2008 took place the 3 rd edition of the Făgăraş-Sâmbăta de Sus international symposium.
This year's edition represented a continuation of a project initiated in 2006: discussing recent history and offering Romanian and foreign researchers and historians an opportunity for dialogue. This year's main topic of discussion, "State and Private Life in Communist Regimes", was approached from different angles. Discussions were held on the role of the state in communist regimes, the interference of the communist state in collective destinies, and on issues of state and private life in other communist regimes.

In the interval 5-6 June 2008, Mr. Marius Oprea, president of the IICCR, participated in the International Conference Fall of the Berlin Wall: from Budapest to Vilnius , which took place in Vilnius (Lithuania).
The conference was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Sajudis Independence Movement in Lithuania, of the Popular Fronts in Estonia and Latvia as well to the 40th anniversary of the Spring in Prague.
The works of the conference were opened by His Excelency Valdas Adamkus, the President of the Republic of Lithuania. The conference was attended by Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis, former Leader of Sajudis , former President of Lithuania and a Member of the European Parliament, Dr. Arnold Rüütel, former President of Estonia, Jón Baldvin Hannibalsson, former Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of Iceland, Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, former Minister of External Affairs of Denmark.

In the interval 2-3 June, The Commission for Education, Science, Culture, Human Rights and Petitions of the Senate of the Czech Republic organized the conference European Conscience and Communism . The IICCR was represented by Luciana Jinga, expert within the Documentation and Research Office. Among the participants one can mention Václav Havel , former dissident and President of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic , Miroslav Lehký , Vice-director, Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, Czech Republic , Profesor Dr. Michael Kißener ,Gutenberg University, Mainz, Germany, Lee Edwards , Director of the Victims of Communism Memorial, USA, Emanuelis Zingeris , Director of the International Committee for the Assessment of the Crimes of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania, Hans Altendorf , Director of the State Security Archives, Lukasz Kaminski , Institute of National Remembrance, Poland, Pavel Žáček , Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, Czech Republic, Göran Lindblad , Member of the Swedish Parliament and Member of the Political Affairs Committee of the Permanent Assembly of the Council of Europe . The works of the Conference were followed by the elaboration of the Prague Declaration. The Declaration has been drafted to express a common position shared by all those involved in the investigation of the crimes and abuses of the communist regimes.
