The volume is a genuine indictment. The dialogue between the two is meant to demonstrate that in the aftermath of the1989 Revolution there was no true will to popularize and condemn the crimes of communism. The enforcement of the eighth request of The Proclamation of Timişoara, the disclosure of the Securitate and the removal of the former activists from public offices remained only an ideal. Until present-day, there was no official condemnation of the former totalitarian regime. "Marius Oprea is one of the most dynamic and sensible contemporary Romanian historians in his field of study, that is, the crimes of communism. He undertook great risks and I think we can clearly see the results now, especially if we consider the setting-up of The Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes, which he is curranty running. The books he published, such as this one, "The Face of Death"- a true indictment of the crimes of communist, as well as all his efforts in this field are part of a surprising framework which allows, for the first time and despite all former communists and their allies, an open discussion on the criminal essence of all communist regimes."(Stephane Courtois)
